American YouTuber Jimmy Donaldson, known as MrBeast, has ascended to the position of the most subscribed YouTuber, surpassing the music giant T-Series on the video-sharing platform. Donaldson announced this milestone on Sunday via X (previously Twitter), declaring that he has "avenged" Swedish YouTuber PewDiePie, accompanied by a snapshot displaying the latest subscription numbers.
With 267 million subscribers, MrBeast's YouTube channel now surpasses T-Series, which boasts 266 million followers.
"After 6 years, we have finally avenged PewDiePie," read the note attached to Donaldson's post. Last year, MrBeast had pledged his support to PewDiePie, stating, "I'm doing this for Pewdiepie."
Among the first to extend congratulations was Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who exclaimed, "Wow, congrats!"
The achievement sparked emotional reactions from fans, with one user expressing, "I'm literally shaking and crying right now I can't believe we finally did it."
Some enthusiasts set their sights on the next milestone of reaching 1 billion subscribers.
Last month, MrBeast had even challenged the CEO of T-Series to a boxing match, as he closed in on the music label's subscriber count. The 26-year-old posted a picture of the remaining subscriber gap on X, issuing the challenge to Bhushan Kumar, the Chairman and Managing Director of T-Series.
The rivalry between PewDiePie and T-Series garnered global attention, with PewDiePie, whose real name is Felix Kjellberg, briefly overtaking T-Series as the most subscribed YouTuber. However, controversies arose in 2017 when Disney severed ties with PewDiePie due to content containing Nazi references.
In 2020, PewDiePie announced a hiatus from YouTube, having amassed 102 million subscribers at the time.
